It's always interesting to get different points of view. People that sit in an office become isolated from the everyday distractions. Slowly becoming detached from what's going on in the bigger picture. A simple walk around the block can refresh your energy and creative energy.
Talking to colleagues and other people, preferably not in your office or who deal with the same things every day, can have unintentional breakthroughs with your work or hurdles you need to get over to move forward.
Of course, not many people have the time to get up and leave work as soon as they have a roadblock placed in their way physically or virtually.
A good TED talk can achieve the same effect by hearing experts' opinions and general thought processes of experts from other occupations.
Here is a good TED talk with Elon Musk about a week before he bought Twitter. Twitter purchase aside, you get some great examples of the thought processes that have made him the richest man globally.
